The event, held at Son Del North, a local Mexican restaurant, drew nearly 30 contestants vying for the title. Gountas, who works as a lighting designer for “The Daily Show,” was encouraged by his wife to participate. “She signed me up as a Father’s Day gift,” he shared.

As the crowd cheered, Gountas’s resemblance to the Chilean-born actor was undeniable. His victory was met with applause, and he was awarded $50 and a year’s supply of burritos. “It was a bit of sunshine today,” Gountas remarked, reflecting on the joy the event brought to his family.

The contest was inspired by Pedro Pascal’s comments about the quality of Mexican food in New York City. Son Del North’s co-owner, Annisha García, organized the event to showcase the vibrant Mexican food scene in the city.

This event adds to a growing trend of celebrity lookalike contests in New York City. Previous contests have featured impersonators of actors like Timothée Chalamet and Glen Powell, highlighting the city’s playful engagement with celebrity culture.

As George Gountas enjoys his burrito-filled year, one can’t help but wonder: Will Pedro Pascal himself take notice of his doppelgänger’s victory? Only time will tell.
