Jonas Brothers returning for ‘Camp Rock 3,’ movie begins production

Turns out the final jam wasn’t so final after all.

Camp Rock 3 began production this week in Vancouver, 15 years after the franchise supposedly concluded with Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam on Disney Channel, Disney announced Wednesday. The film will be released on Disney+ and Disney Channel.

All three of the Jonas Brothers will return to guest-star as their fictional band Connect 3 from the previous two Disney Channel original movies, and the siblings will executive-produce the project alongside former Camp Rock star Demi Lovato, who is not slated to appear in the film.

“It’s so good to be back,” Nick Jonas said in a video from the set that accompanied the announcement. “It’s time to head back to camp!”

Curiously, although Lovato has not been announced as part of the returning cast, Maria Canals-Barrera, who played her character’s mother in the first two films, is returning for the threequel.

The movie will kick off with the JoBros’ onscreen band Connect 3 heading back to the titular music camp to find a new opening act for their reunion tour. 

The story will primarily center around a new generation of campers competing for that coveted tour slot, including Sage (Descendants: Wicked Wonderland‘s Liamani Segura), her brother Desi (newcomer Hudson Stone), resident bad boy Fletch (Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires‘ Malachi Barton), drummer Cliff (The Thundermans: Undercover‘s Casey Trotter), cellist Rosie (The Fallout‘s Lumi Pollack), choreographer Callie (Classroom Confidential‘s Brooklynn Pitts), and influencer Madison (Holiday Twist‘s Ava Jean).

Veronica Rodriguez is directing, and the movie is written by Eydie Faye, who previously collaborated on Disney+’s The Slumber Party. Jamal Sims, whose previous credits include Hannah Montana: The Movie and the live-action Aladdin, will serve as choreographer.

The original Camp Rock premiered on Disney Channel in 2008, while its first sequel, The Final Jam, came out in 2010. Both films revolved around Mitchie (Lovato), who hones her vocal talents at the camp alongside the Gray brothers Shane (Joe Jonas), Nate (Nick Jonas), and Jason (Kevin Jonas). Alyson Stoner, Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, and Jasmine Richards also starred in both movies.

This is not the Jonas Brothers’ first return to Disney. News came earlier this year that the pop trio are set to star in A Very Jonas Christmas Movie, which premieres on Disney+ on Nov. 14.

The Jonas Brothers also recently reunited with Lovato, whom they brought onstage as a surprise guest at a concert in New Jersey last month.
