Drew Barrymore reveals she keeps mac and cheese inside her fanny pack

Not to get too cheesy, but no one loves macaroni and cheese quite like Drew Barrymore.  

The 50-year-old actress revealed on Thursday’s episode of her eponymous talk show that she carries a fanny pack around her house that contains a “little bit of macaroni and cheese” for her to enjoy whenever her heart desires.

The surprise mac snack came up during a conversation with Drew Crew members Ross Mathews and Sunny Anderson about having a “house purse,” a new trend that consists of creating an easily accessible box full of one’s most commonly used household essentials. 

“This is what I carry around my house, it’s a fanny pack and this way you’re hands free,” Barrymore said, showing off the yellow bag around her waist. “So if you’re on the couch, you can take Sunny’s tackle box approach. And if you’re on the move getting some cleaning done [you can use a fanny pack].”

Barrymore proceeded to open up the fanny pack and showcase her most treasured items. 

“I like to keep my lip balm, because my lips get dry and I need it always,” she said, before pulling out a small container of cheesy golden goodness and a plastic fork. “I like to keep a little bit of macaroni and cheese in here.”

Mathews, who is well-versed in Barrymore’s deep love of macaroni and cheese at this point, was not fazed by the inclusion. “Yeah, sure,” he said. “Oh, that’s handy.”

However, Anderson, who became an official Drew Crew member during the episode, appeared surprised by Barrymore casually pulling the macaroni during his bag reveal.

“So, there’s mac and cheese in your bag swag?” the Food Network star asked as Barrymore took a quick bite of the macaroni before setting it aside on her Drew’s News desk. “This is goals.”

Barrymore capped off her presentation by noting that her fanny pack also includes a miniature measuring tape at all times “because I’m always moving furniture.” 

Her Drew Crew members also shared what they keep in their respective boxes, with Anderson revealing that her house purse was filled with tweezers, a nail grinder, hair grease, glasses cleaner, and other gadgets.

While Mathews didn’t get a chance to share what resided in his house purse before the segment cut to commercial break, his box appeared to contain a large pink feather, a glass, and a bottle of red wine. 

Macaroni and cheese is Drew Barrymore’s favorite meal and pops up frequently on her talk show. She’s eaten it out of glass purses, featured it in multiple cooking segments, and even had an old piece of pasta shoot off her desk and onto the floor during one episode.

The talk show host was even gifted an “emotional support mac and cheese” stuffed animal, as well as an accompanying bowl of real mac and cheese, from Rachel Dratch for her 48th birthday. “I will keep it for later,” Barrymore said.
