Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry’s reps break silence on split

Reps for Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry are hoping to swish, swish speculation about the nature of their relationship away.

Representatives for the actor and the singer are seeking to offer some clarity with regards to their recent breakup, saying in a statement shared with Entertainment Weekly on Thursday, “Representatives have confirmed that Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting.”

The statement goes on to say, “They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.” (The two welcomed their first child, a daughter named Daisy, in August 2020.)

On June 26, PEOPLE first confirmed that the pair had split up after nine years together. Though reps for both stars didn’t provide comment to EW at the time, Bloom on Wednesday got philosophical about loneliness and the human connection on social media. He shared a 20-slide repost and also highlighted three specific quotes from Carl Jung, the Swiss psychiatrist and psychologist who founded analytical psychology, on his Instagram Stories.

The first quote said, “Loneliness does not come from having no people about one, but from being unable to communicate the things that seem important to oneself.”

The second quote stated, “Know all the theories, master all the techniques, but as you touch a human soul, be just another human soul.”

As for Perry, the “Teenage Dream” singer took the stage in Adelaide, Australia, on Monday, shortly after reports of her break-up with the Pirates of the Caribbean star. 

Though she didn’t address the news, Perry became visibly emotional at the conclusion of her last concert at the Adelaide Entertainment Center, holding back tears as she introduced her final song. “Thank you for always being there for me, Australia. It means the world,” the singer said in fan videos capturing the moment of her tearing up.

The first (firework) sparks between the former couple were reported in 2016. Perry previously revealed on an episode of American Idol during her time as a judge that she met the English actor at a Golden Globes after-party in Los Angeles after he tried to nab one of her burgers.

Perry and Bloom split in early 2017 before reconciling the next year, and announced their engagement on Valentine’s Day 2019. They planned to wed in Japan in the summer of 2020, but had to postpone their nuptials due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They remained engaged but ultimately never tied the knot.

Bloom was previously married to supermodel Miranda Kerr, with whom he shares a son, Flynn. They broke up in 2013 after three years of marriage. Perry was previously married to Russell Brand from 2010–2012.
